The Hybrid Hollow Deceiver uses a 360-degree hollow tie of Squimpish fibers in the front of the fly to build a strong baitfish profile while keeping the material open and mobile.
This style of tie combines the recognizable shape of a Deceiver with a hollow-style front section, giving the tyer more control over profile, movement, and overall bulk.
Building the 360-Degree Hollow Front
The defining feature of this pattern is the 360-degree hollow application of Squimpish fibers at the front of the fly. Tying the material around the hook helps create a fuller profile without relying on one heavy bundle.
Squimpish Hair works well for this technique because the fibers can be controlled in sparse amounts and shaped to build the profile gradually.
Control the Length and Taper
Squimpish fibers maintain a consistent diameter from root to tip. If the fibers are longer than needed, they can be cut to the desired length, reshuffled, and restacked so the ends are staggered and the bundle regains a natural-looking taper.
That makes it easier to adjust the front section of the fly without being locked into the original fiber length.
Keep the Hollow Tie Sparse
A hollow-style tie does not need a large amount of material to create presence. Sparse applications help preserve movement and keep the profile from becoming overly dense.
Build the shape in stages and add only as much fiber as the pattern needs.
Little to No Water Retention
Squimpish synthetic fibers retain little to no water, which helps reduce excess water weight when casting larger baitfish and streamer patterns.
