Being a Flyfisherman ResidingI fell in love with the sport and lifestyle of Fly fishing while attending Lock Haven University in Pa. It came as a challenge from a professor by the name of Dr. Walsh. He watched me catch fish from the bank of the local river the day prior. “I’ve seen you can catch Fish, but real men fly fish.” - Dr. Walsh stated. In response, I laughed and said,” Listen, I’m going to fly fish, get sponsored to do it, and be better than you.” This joking moment shifted my life forever. I continued through college, earning acknowledgment/awards for Track and Field and Football, which led me to compete professionally. At the end of my first professional season, I decided to stay close to home. I wanted to be close to my daughter who was 2 years old at the time and pursue a life on the Fly. In years to come, I would be offered to help pioneer an outdoor inclusion initiative to get inner-city kids off the street and into the outdoors alongside the living legend Joe Humphreys. Covid put a stop to this, but it didn’t stop my desire to help the youth. So what do I do now? you may ask. Well, when I’m not on the water, I work or spend time with my family. I work for a local middle school, assisting kids with different learning abilities. While working there, I’ve seen an opportunity for outdoor educational programs. With the help of my co-founder, we took a shot and pitched the program idea. Fast forward to now, and I’m delighted to share that the program just concluded its inaugural term. In addition, the fly fishing and outdoor educational program for the middle school and high school is the first of its kind in all the surrounding school districts. in the armpit of America (i.e. New Jersey) you would think I would be bitter but the truth is here in northwest Nj we have a very diverse fishery. I Grew up tossing shiners under a bobber for whatever would eat them. It wasn’t until I got a pickerel to take a swipe at a stick bait that I truly got hooked. The visual eat is what I fell in love with and what I still chase to this day. Throwing streamers for big predatory fish in my home waters is where you can find me on any given weekend. We have great opportunities right in my backyard and some great fisheries a stones toss away. Time at the vise is what keeps me connected to the water while I’m off it. Smallmouth, Largemouth, Pickerel, Pike, and Musky. I’ll chase anything that is above its weight class.
